John C. Eames - BSc (Hons) FRACI Chartered Chemist MAustIMM.

John brings over thirty (30) years analytical chemistry experience and fifteen (15) years as a quality practitioner both nationally and internationally. John has consulted to the manufacturing, mining, environmental and chemical industry for over ten (10) years. He has extensive experience in the development and implementation of integrated quality systems and has been assessing technical competence of laboratories for more than fifteen (15) years.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
  • Over thirty years laboratory experience as an experimental scientist and analytical chemist, in government and commercial enterprises.
  • Extensive experience as a quality assurance practitioner.
  • Specialist in laboratory accreditation systems.
  • Extensive national and international experience.
  • Write commercial training packages for Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) for delivery of quality system training in both AS ISO/IEC 17025:1999 accreditation and ISO9000:2000 certification.
Analabs Pty Ltd / Australian Environmental Laboratories

Chief Chemist, providing consulting and quality issue services for the technical components of mineral analysis and environmental projects.

  • Provided method development, instrument evaluation and commissioning and staff training for mineral and environmental projects.
  • Conducted objective reviews of client initiated quality issues and prepared commercially sensitive reports to resolve those issues.
  • Increased productivity in areas of trace metal analysis by improving methodologies and introducing new technologies, while simultaneously securing NATA accreditation.
CSIRO, Exploration and Mining

Principal Experimental Scientist.

Led the Analytical Techniques Group.

  • Developed methods for trace and ultra trace analysis by GFAAS, ICP-AES and ICP-MS techniques. Samples included rock, ore, mineral, groundwater, seafloor sediment and wine samples.
  • Appointed, trained, supervised and developed staff.
  • Initiated and planned group research & development projects.
  • Budgeted and demonstrated need for equipment purchase.

Developed commercial software via collaborative projects with instrument manufacturers.

Modified instrument design and developed new demountable plasma torch, many of these design modifications were incorporated into commercial spectrometers.

Set up shipboard analytical procedures and provided timely high quality data for the analysis of ppb levels of methane in seawater samples. This data was utilised in the highly successful search for "black smokers" in the Manus Basin off Papua New Guinea.

Managed the day-to-day operation of research projects within the Water Quality Group of the Division of Energy Technology. These included projects for:

  • BHPAC
  • Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) - Ranger Mine
  • Renison Limited
  • Queensland Department of Minerals and Energy - Mt. Morgan Mine
  • Clarence Colliery
  • Northparkes Mine
  • ARCO Coal Australia Inc.
